Walter Dix: Fastest Man In America!

To say that Walter Dix is back is like saying it gets warm in the summer time here in Florida.

Dix, who runs this weekend (July 10) in the Aviva British Grand Prix on July 10 in Gateshead, England, beat Tyson Gay in the 200 last weekend at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon.

Dix finished in 19.72 seconds, .04 ahead of Gay and .04 behind Dix’s personal best.

“I wasn’t really focused on the time,” Dix, who won Olympic bronze medals in the 100m and 200m in 2008, said. “It was a great race and I’m glad I got that competition against Tyson. Tyson was the fastest man in America last year and I’m glad I could take that title away from him this year.”

Walter Dix Blows Away The Field In The 200 In Rome

Walter Dix continued his unbelievable "comeback" season when he shattered an 11-year old record in the 200 at the Golden Gala in Rome.

Dix stunned track fans when he ran a 19.86 for the gold medal. While some track insiders were surprised at the extent of Dix's dominance, Dix's performance was not all that surprising considering that he has been healthy for the better part of the last seven months, and is just now hitting the stride that led him to a pair of bronze medals at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

"I am very proud to break the meeting record," Dix said. "Last year was hard because I was injured, but now I am healthy and I want to meet Usain Bolt again very soon."

Dix's teammate Wallace Spearmon was second at 20.05 seconds and Ireland's Paul Hession came in third at 20.60.

Walter Dix: Top Times In the World

Walter Dix turned in the world’s second fastest times of the year in the 100 and 200, with a 9.98 and 19.89 respectively.

Dix, running in last weekend’s Seminole Twilight meet, showed that he is back in top form again.

"It was pretty good today," Dix said. "I came out and did what I wanted to do. I wanted to run a sub 10 in the 100 and a sub-20 in the 200. This is my home. I like running here because I can run in front of my family and my friends and they get the first taste of what's going on in my life as far as track and field so it's a blessing to be able to come here and run well. Most of the crowd is family, friends and teammates. It's my home crowd so it's a perfect atmosphere for me to start up in."

Dix is gearing up for a busy 2010 outdoor season. Stay tuned to this blog for more updates on Dix's 2010 season.
